Mulenga
|
I am 10 years old now and my name is Mulenga.
One day I went out to play with my friends. We were just enjoying ourselves and that is why I delayed coming back home. When I came back in the evening, my father was already waiting for me with a whip. He beat me with it badly, so when my parents were getting ready to go to sleep, I decided to leave my home and run away. A friend of mine took me to his home the next day and his uncle, who was looking after him, allowed me to stay there for a few days. Together we started to wash cars near the market to make some money, which we would use to buy some food, watch videos and play computer games. It was there where I started to sniff "stika". |
At night we would go to one of the bars where we were allowed to sleep. One evening people were chasing a thief who stole some blankets and clothes. They caught me thinking it was him. They beat me up and took me to the police station, but I knew nothing, so I was released after one week and I went to the market.
There I met a man who bought me some food. Then after that, I started following the road and eventually reached the town center. I didn't know anyone there. There were many people but I was all alone. Getting something to eat was difficult, but somehow I came across a place where they were selling sugar cane and I was now eating those residues of sugar cane.
It was then when Br. Isaac fund me and brought me to the center. It was here when after some time I was taken back to school and now I continue my education in the second grade
